The aim of this website is to provide information on:
the history of 6989; progress of the restoration; the support groups and fundraising activity and how you can help put this
magnificent engine back in steam. Look in regularly, we update at least twice per month. We regularly
place new pictures around the website.

The 6989 Committe aims to have the locomotive
completed as soon as we can in 2018, subject to continued funding through sales activity
and general donations. She will be commissioned and run in
during 2018 before being made available for hire.Why not do your bit for posterity and help us along the last lap to
put this magnificent locomotive back in steam?
June 2012 - 6989 Restoration Group awarded Highly Commended
Certificate by the Transport Trust for the restoration work thus far.
April 2014 - Boiler restoration almost complete, successfully hydraulically tested and signed
off by our boiler inspector.
9th August 2014
- fire put in firebox for first time in 50 years as out of frames steam test is commenced.
11th August 2014 - successful out of frames steam test completed.
6th October 2014 - Boiler Inspector witnesses and signs off out of frames steam test.
2nd March 2015 boiler returned to frames.
5th June 2017 profile of driving wheel tyres confirmed fit to run by qualified FTR Inspector.
26 September 2018. Lining out completed.
11 December 2018 formal in-frames steam test passed.
11 December 2018. 6989 moves under own
